VIBRANT SOUNDBRIDGE received market approval for the implantation in children and adolescents within Europe and countries that recognize the European CE mark

In June 2009, MED-EL’s middle ear implant system, the VIBRANT SOUNDBRIDGE received market approval for the implantation in children and adolescents within Europe and countries that recognize the European CE mark.  This is a significant step forward especially in the treatment of children with aural atresia, a congenital malformation that may affect both the external and the middle ear.

The very favorable long term technical reliability and clinical experience provided a solid basis for this approval.  Preceding the approval, a meeting of experts including highly reputed surgeons from around the world, was held in 2008.  Existing paediatric cases were discussed and a positive consensus was reached about the suitability of implanting children with this particular middle ear implant.
